Zoplo Returns with Another Gem on ‘Are we there yet’

Jeremy Bregman

‘Are we there yet’ is the brand new release from Toronto-based vocalist and songwriter Zoplo. As a blind hip-hop-inspired artist, Zoplo has lived anything but an ordinary life. They started writing music while involuntarily committed to various lockdown psychiatric facilities across North America. Many of these same facilities have since been shut down, or are being investigated for allegations of child abuse. That’s a pretty unique story as far as I’m concerned, and that distinctiveness and speciality shine through beautifully on ‘Are we there yet’.

“Generally, the song is meant to provide representation to those who have grown up dealing with mental illness,” says Zoplo. For the soundscape, they opt for a lo-fi, hip-hop-type beat, and include interesting little musical titbits scattered all throughout the tune. It’s a laid-back and mellow track that really gets stuck in your after just a few listens.

Zoplo has built up a serious reputation in a very short time. They’ve opened for international acts such as Yung Lean, Tech N9ne, Odd Future, Riff Raff, Rittz, Madchild, and D12 to name just a few. With three singles already released, we simply cannot wait to hear what Zoplo gets up to next!
