Florida locals and ridiculously talented musicians Zanne Hanna and Austin Atlas recently teamed up to concoct a tune called ‘In My Dreams’, and it has instantly become one of my most treasured songs of the year. Originally written by Zanne at the end of a long and toxic relationship, the track focuses lyrically on her struggles with OCD which she developed at the time. Sonically, however, ‘In My Dreams’ is full of hope and optimism with rich, lush synths and a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere.
It’s a short tune – my one gripe with it really. However, what these two have managed to put together and bottle up in a little over two minutes is pretty remarkable. You’ll hear hints of influences coming and going throughout the song, including Flume, The Chainsmokers, Maggie Rogers, and Purity Ring to name a few. Nevertheless, there’s unquestionably a fresh and authentic element to their sound.
Once again, I’m completely out of my musical comfort zone with ‘In My Dreams’…and I couldn’t be happier! It’s an absolutely smashing track that is already completely stuck in my head, and I cannot wait to hear what Zanne (and potentially Austin) get up to next!
