“Welcome to the official Instagram page of Zachary Mason” – his Insta page eloquently declares. It’s a fitting presentation for an artist who has found success in playful, absurd and quirky lyricism. Mason’s whole persona is rather unique, constantly researching for the appropriate musical livery for his catchy songs and experimental material. One could say that Zachary’s artistic output is a work in progress – yet it’s already reaching a tipping point, sounding vivid, intriguing and slightly psychedelic.
Delving into hazy indie-rock, ‘I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory…’ is the perfect example of that. An unsuspectingly mellow and cosy piece, the track evokes the idea of avoiding relationships’ common pitfalls by… making humans in a factory! An outlandish idea, perhaps, yet delivered with comically extensive confidence by Mason, wrapping the listeners in an alternative dimension, one where dreams have solid forms and sounds take on a three-dimensional quality.
Having developed his craft on a recording kit gifted by a relative, Zachary appears to be particularly productive, with over 200 demos written since 2021. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, he explains: “I hope listeners will enjoy the playful tone of this track and its unusual approach.”
