YDV has had a busy year so far. On a mission to release an EP delving into the obsessive toxicity in a romantic relationship, the New York City-based creative has been unveiling track after track in the past few months, taking the listeners on a rollercoaster journey through the various phases of infatuation and love complexities. ‘WHERE I STAY’ is part of that very same series of musical nuggets.
‘YDV’s latest effort, the track shifts the attention on “showing a semblance of understanding towards love amidst turmoil” – an experience in which the song’s main character, in this case YDV himself, “struggles to commit to one side or the other, drowning in new-found freedom, yet being shackled to memory”. A relatable yet controversial take on toxic love which we are confident will resonate with a lot of people out there.
Sonically, ‘WHERE I STAY’ finds its euphoric and intriguing identity in modern hip-hop, R&B and pop stylings, piecing together an effortless track, perfectly fitting YDV’s malleable, charming vocals, here drenched in autotune flavouring.
