Debuting earlier this year, Yana Rose now collects all singles into an EP, ‘Another Missed Sunset’. In it, we find tales of human experience and reckoning, providing a glimpse into its author’s eclectic and chaotic life. ‘Long Distance Friend’ introduced the record in ballad fashion. Built over poignant piano chords and long reverbs, the track is a heartwarming, emotional jewel.
‘Tainted Heart’ follow up with more energy, while keeping introspective lyricism at its core. ‘I Should Just Shut Up’ focuses instead on soulful, RnB-flavoured territories, putting Rose’s mesmerising vocals at the forefront. The production feels modern, nuanced and well-put together.
‘Good Riddance’ closes the EP, a journey we wish could be longer. Describing the process around the making of the record, Yana Rose explains: “I think of the EP as a reflection of the past few years of my life, which were so choppy, unstable, and emotionally tumultuous. There were many events that inspired each song. For a long time, the EP was going to be called “Distracted”, because I felt like that word represented my college years well, but one evening in the spring I was sitting on my bedroom floor writing, and noticed the pretty hues in the sky over the buildings. I just thought to myself, “there goes another missed sunset.” I knew immediately that that would be the title of the EP.”
