Oh, Wotts, how we love thee! The Canadian indie-pop duo has been on our radar for over a year now, and in that time, they’ve gifted us some of the dreamiest and most inviting tunes I’ve had the pleasure of being introduced to. From ‘wheel’ and ‘blue’ to ‘ALLO’ and ‘WANNABE’, the dynamic pair of Jayem and Ricky 100 just keep on coming up with the goods!
‘PETALS’ is the pair’s latest single, and serves as the final chapter from Wotts’ three-track EP of the same name. Turning to the likes of Australian heavyweights Tame Impala and Pond for inspiration, the song blends bits of electro with psychedelic indie-pop. Creating a hypnotic and mesmerizing atmosphere, Wotts completely sweep you up in their sunkissed, chewy, and synthy world, and all you wish is that you didn’t have to leave.
As for the meaning behind ‘PETALS’, Jayem says that “In a perfect world, when you get your heart broken, you move on and find peace. But the truth is you can wear that scar for a long time, if not forever. We liked the idea of ending the story in a messy, unsolved kind of way because heartbreak is never clean”. Have truer words ever been spoken?
We love this band and everything they stand for, and feel privileged to be a part of their sonic ride!
