We all have a specific mental image of what Christmas music stands for. Even sonically, we have been trained to recognize a pattern of sound and intentions, a specific character that instantly marks a track as a Christmas record. Lithuanian duo Yorige is here to remind us of the contrary, building a heartwarming festive tune with strong world music and folk features. Based in London, the talented pair collaborates with Lithuanian kankles player Žemyna Trinkunaite to give birth to a poignant and comforting gem, ‘Kalėdų Belaukiant’.
English-speaking listeners might feel intimidated by the foreign lyrics. But they shouldn’t: the concoction between a peculiar arrangement and the Lithuanian language creates a soothing, mesmerising track, gently wrapping the listener into its own alternative universe. You’ll experience comforting tones and you’ll be relieved from stress and worries – even just for a mere three minutes.
Comprised of singer-songwriter Aaron Fross and producer Nix Bakx, Yorige appeared on the music scene earlier this year, thanks to their EP ‘Motina’. ‘Kalėdų Belaukiant’ follows the same style, delivering world music and eastern vibes with pride and knowledge.
