When discovering WORC, one must be ready to deal with the rough edges of their sonic experience. While that might be disorienting at first, it’s crucial to keep in mind that the lo-fi, raw production is the very same concept the project is organised around. You see, WORC aims to electrify the listener, wrapping him in hypnotizing and peculiar sound matter.
Take for instance ‘Feel The Sound’, one of the band’s recent singles: boasting a strong punk aesthetic, the record revolves around simple guitar riffs, feeble drum beats and casual vocals. We are far, far away from the luxury of commercial music. WORC seeks to take it back to the most seminal elements of their artistry, delivering a message of self-empowerment and veiled euphoria together with driving rhythms and danceable patterns.
Headed by singer EMOJI, the Oklahoma City-based outfit seems to have clear ideas and an even clearer musical direction. Describing the band’s live shows as “mesmerising”, EMOJI also explains: “We really want them going oh this is ok, wait this is great, wait I’m having a good time, until the experience becomes a blur of emotion.” Boasting a sold-out debut show, it is clear that their efforts are paying off, providing a life-changing, heart-shaking and bran-melting listening experience to anyone brave enough to join them.
We never felt braver, and we can tell you WORC are absolutely worth your time. Give them a chance.
