There’s something truly nostalgic in ‘Doves’, but we cannot point it out just yet… perhaps it is the intriguing, lush guitar tones, balanced between 90s-flavoured alt-rock and shoegaze, or the seemingly easy-going, minimal production, quite conservative in its sonic livery. What really matters, eventually, is the anthemic nature of the tune: penned by American creative Woodstone, the record particularly shines in its powerful, catchy chorus, revealing the fierce energy and light melancholia behind the lyricism.
Taken from Woodstone’s upcoming album ‘Glass Skin’, the song delves into broken love and the complications around new relationships, initiating a wide exploration of romance that will then overspill into sort of a ‘concept’ LP. For now, though, we are enjoying ‘Doves’: even taken at face value, it’s a remarkable piece. Sean Eversen is the producer and mixer behind it.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Woodstone explains: “Feeling you are falling head over head over heels but knowing that it could never work but you put yourself through the situation anyway. ‘Doves’ is really the beginning of a vicious love cycle, already headed into the relationship with the wrong frame of mind.”
