Wish Queen & Muzzy Fossa Combine To Deliver 80s-Infused Gem ‘sub rosa’

‘sub rosa’ is a collaboration between artist Wish Queen and producer Muzzy Fossa. It’s everything you want from a collab. On one hand, you’ve got the captivating lyrics and vocal work of Wish Queen. On the other, you’ve got Muzzy Fossa, who has an aptitude for boundary-pushing instrumentation. Such teamwork yields pretty special results. Here’s a collaboration destined for the stars, and you’ll dance all the way to the galaxy.

‘sub rosa’ packs a punch with its floor-filling grooves. That’s clear from the off. It has the head-nodding tempo and shuffles that made Calvin Harris: Feels such a smash hit. When it breaks, Muzzy Fossa gets to work. Dream-like synth sounds parade around the mix offering unforeseen shoegaze qualities. With 80s-filled nostalgia, the intro has got me hooked. ‘sub rosa’ will do the same for you too.

Enter Wish Queen. Her reverb-smothered vocals sound out of this world. There’s a unique character here. The vocals are dark, supernatural, bewitching, and with vague similarities to Fiona Apple. But don’t get me wrong, Wish Queen has her own instantly recognisable style, and this is refreshing. You could imagine Wish Queen singing 50s swing songs in a smokey bar way back yonder.

But we’re here and this is now. Although there are hat-tips to the past ‘sub rosa’ stands as a testament to modern music. A maelstrom of influences, it’s quite the masterpiece. Tinges of psyche, shoegaze, and dream pop collide with 80s anthemic synths and disco grooves. It kind of sounds like the Cocteau Twins were tasked with creating a disco anthem. And… It sounds very fresh! All in all, Wish Queen and Muzzy Fossa have combined to create something great. If Shoegaze Disco Pop isn’t a genre, then it is now!
