“I’m in my thirties now. I’m no longer an angry young man, but I do have a lot to say”. These are the words of Jon Ladner, a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who performs under the moniker of Winesburg. Based in Texas and with a rotating line-up of contributors, Winesburg has just unleashed his latest full-length album in the form of ‘Break, Break, Break,’ eleven tracks that showcase what an unreal musical talent Ladner really is! From the incredibly delicate and beautiful opener and title track to rockier numbers like ‘The Meek Shall Inherit’ and ‘Maelstrom’, it’s a wonderfully eclectic record that deserves your full attention.
Looking to the likes of U2, Bruce Springsteen, Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams, and The National for inspiration, Winesburg demands honesty, sincerity, and integrity from his songwriting. Track nine, for example, ‘You Haven’t Met All the People You Will Someday Grow to Love’, is a tender song that Jon wrote for his son who had yet to be born.
There’s so much to love about ‘Break, Break, Break’. It’s a rich, warm, and immersive album that sees the artist inviting us into his world, and you feel privileged to be allowed in. It’s Wineburg’s first release since 2019, and we just hope it doesn’t take that long to hear from him again!
