William Moore’s ‘Validation’ is a Full-Blown Plea For Acceptance

Nowadays, being a musician is a tough gig. Pour your heart into a song. Spend your money and time recording said song. Then, release your pride and joy to the world pleading for people to listen. I know, I’ve been there.

So, you haven’t got thousands of plays on Spotify? You can’t be any good! Not got a million followers on Instagram? You can’t be interesting. This is the false narrative of the narrow-minded. Musicians everywhere are seeking affirmation and ‘Validation’ tackles the artistic struggles. By the way, to make you aware, Mr. Moore, we at Mesmerized are listening.

‘Validation’ begins with a booming kick drum. The steady beat has ‘We Will Rock You’ simplicity that could get your hands clapping. Come to mention it, the intro vocal harmonies possess Freddy Mercury appeal too. Under throbbing bass guitar, Moore sings, “I find my soul is tired. Brain and spine hard-wired. To find I crave success. To fill the emptiness“. He delivers the first verse in a menacing Marylin Manson fashion.

Boom! In comes the chorus. Moore doesn’t beat around the bush. “Give me some motherfucking validation. Show me my life is not a waste of time,” he sings. It’s direct, infectious, and has new-wave charisma. Throughout. Moore cites his desire for validation and the consequences without. For this, you must admire his honesty. Tinged with darkness and theatrics, ‘Validation’ has Depeche Mode allure. It’s anthemic and will linger in your mind.

So what validates an artist? What is success? Is it stream counts and Insta followers? I don’t think so. For me, it comes from creating sincere music and being brave enough to put it out there. So, Moore may have found validation after all.
