wht.rbbt.obj are a band from Chicago who also happen to be a married couple, have delivered an impressive EP with “Romeo Bravo Bravo Tango.” It’s always heartwarming to see couples collaborate creatively, but often this can verge on the saccharine. Fortunately, this isn’t the case here.

wht.rbbt.obj brings a refreshing attitude to their music, and I was completely here for it. Opening with “Your Love’s a Crime,” the EP starts with a slow burn that oozes atmosphere. The interplay between the dripping guitar lines and the versatile vocals creates an interesting juxtaposition.

The drums inject an underlying drive, ensuring the track maintains its energy throughout. The vocal range, transitioning from intimate whispers to expansive, arena-filling power, is particularly compelling.

“Heavy Petting” stands out as a fantastic track, laden with organ, bass, and drums that culminate in an irresistible hook. The raw spirit of the song made me feel as if I were right there in the room with the band. The song’s backdrop, reminiscent of Black Sabbath’s heaviness mingled with post-punk vigor, adds a unique edge.

“The Ballad of Kitty Collins” is hauntingly melodic, wrapped in a dark ambiance, while “White Rabbit Black Sheep” dives even deeper into the shadows, exuding a delightful nastiness. The closer is an unapologetically loud and in-your-face track, showcasing inventive guitar licks that command attention.

With “Romeo Bravo Bravo Tango,” wht.rbbt.obj deliver a cohesive and thoughtful collection of songs. Each track feels interconnected, weaving together a signature sound that pulses with the duo’s undeniable spirit. This EP doesn’t just showcase their talent—it lets you feel the heartbeat of their music.
