The keen reader might remember reading about wht.rbbt.obj earlier this month, when we wrote about ‘No Rainbows In Indiana’, a record we celebrated as “pure rock ‘n’ roll perfection”. We stand by our words: the Chicago-based band is fierce, crunchy and energetic, offering a slice of unfiltered rock matter. Behind their hostile, complex and obscure name, lays a way more approachable and hard-hitting musical universe, one that we are confident will connect with a large audience out there.
‘Whiskey Hotel Tango’ is wht.rbbt.obj’s latest effort, a charming five-track EP that amplifies and expands on the group’s majestic sound. Introduced by ‘Love On Hold’, the record instantly introduces us to earthy and fuzzy guitar riffs, sleazy drum grooves and River Rabbitte’s sleazy and rebellious vocal tone. Her real-life partner, Frank, serves as wht.rbbt.obj’s co-founder, an outfit that’s now grown into a quartet. The pair do a great job of driving the artistic vision behind it, sharing with the listeners a moment of playful fierceness.
‘Keep You Like A Secret (Tidal Wave)’ closes the record in unexpected fashion, teaming up with Scott May into a bluesy, slow-paced and immensely evocative gem. A worthy EP.
