WHAT’S IN THE BOX Return with ‘S(T)IMULATIONS

If you are looking for a good example of European grunge and traditional alt rock, ‘S(T)IMULATIONS’ might just be what you are looking for. A slice of gritty energy and fierce and unwavering charisma, the record is the perfect intro to WHAT’S IN THE BOX, Czech outfit with a knack for powerful galloping anthems and expressive guitar riffs. Over eleven tracks, they showcase their sonic character, a universe made of early ‘2000s alt-rock influences and late ‘90s grunge matter.

If one listens carefully, it’s obvious how ‘S(T)IMULATIONS’ poses focus on its lyrical and vocal delivery too, not just being an overly distorted mess. Instead, WHAT’S IN THE BOX make sure the listeners have something to relate to, while providing evidence of the group’s songwriting prowess. It’s a malleable record, which could appeal to the rock aficionados as well as the casual listener. Measured and contained, it’s a pretty good album.

Comprised of Ján Martinek, Daniel Kalaš and  Pavel Kalenda, the band has been in the works for a few years, committing to long releases rather than individual singles. In a way, it’s an old-school approach, but one that seems to be paying off for the Czech rockers. Judge for yourself…
