New York-based artist Commander Commander’s new EP Shut Up features multiple noteworthy tracks, including high-energy cut ‘Marie Annette’. Reminiscent of bedroom pop artist Gus Dapperton, Commander Commander’s ‘Marie Anette’ is the ideal addition to any chilled-out playlist, the perfect accompaniment for lazy nights in with friends.
The entire EP was written and recorded in San Francisco over a three-year period. When it comes to artistic choices, Commander Commander has proven themself to be an extremely melodical thinker.
As each track so effortlessly glides to the next, as every good storybook should, we are exposed to another facet of their being. Without us even knowing, we’re transported to another universe, where 80’s drum beats and 70’s guitar solos intertwine in perfect harmony. Drawing us in with a heavily synthesised applause, it’s clear from the outset that this isn’t just going to be another teen-friendly Indie record.
Opening the EP with ‘Marie Annette’ is the best decision they could’ve made. Following in the footsteps of bands like Wallows and Girl in Red, we’re sure it won’t be long before Commander Commander makes a name for themselves as the voice of a generation.
