A keen explorer of synthwave, Waves_On_Waves has been moving in both directions: sunny-laced, uptempo 80s-inspired bops and darker, nostalgic and melancholic gems. Both his streaming/viewing figures and the list of collaborators (Timecop1983 among others) speak highly of the project, now a solid reality in the synthwave space. ‘On The Outside’ is the record that catches our attention.
A very new wave-esque offering, the track seems to take a step back from the project’s usual sonic references, finding refuge in more indie-inspired territories. Packed with simple electric guitars and sharp drum machines, ‘On The Outside’ crowns it all with clean, evocative vocals, perfectly fitting the nostalgic vibe.
