Californian wizard Waverly Drive took an important step this summer, releasing ‘Now I Know’, an EP that showcased all the quirky and authentic stylings championed so proudly by the project. Over six stunning tracks, the listeners were taken into an artificial sonic universe made up of retro drum machines, lo-fi textures and slight psych tones. What more could you want, eh?!
‘Just a Feeling’ was part of that tracklist, and gets now given attention as a single. A mellow and nuanced offering, the piece is one of the most pensive and reflective numbers in the EP, and as such it feels lightly cinematic and evocative. Layering long strings, spacious guitars and ethereal vocal harmonies, ‘Just a Feeling’ serves the song perfectly, putting the attention on its lyricism and soothing melody, rather than on the technicalities of the production itself.
The single delves into romantic territories, as Waverly Drive explains: “a midtempo track reflecting on love with a nostalgic yearning feeling for true love.” A worthy listening experience, make sure to check out the whole EP too.
