There aren’t a lot of artists that impressed us as much as VISSIA did. Highly active in the last three years, the Canadian newcomer has unveiled a personal, nuanced artistic universe that greatly thrives on eclectic and multi-genre artistry. After her latest album – ‘My Pleasure’ – was published in 2021, the Edmonton native embarked on a journey to connect her sonic art with visual cues, crafting a series of music videos for a number of tracks on the record.
‘Doorway’ is the latest of those efforts to reach us. In it, VISSIA gives the song a surprisingly edgy aesthetic, blending elements of classic Western movies with sci-fi inspirations, resulting in a cultural melting-pot that feels edgy and futuristic, while drenched in familiar references.
A collaboration with Nich Davies (also the music producer of the song) and Peter Kominek, ‘Doorway’ conceptualizes a fictional galactic universe – entirely filmed on green screens – where a romantic but complicated plot is set to take place. The video functions as an artistic tie to VISSIA’s upcoming album, expected for January 2024, and a live documentary, set for release this fall.
