Philadelphia-based emcee vidpoet recently dropped his debut EP in the form of ‘Art Therapy, Pt. 1’, four unflinching and hard-hitting tracks that showcase vidpoet’s lyrical and emceeing prowess. Teaming up with New Jersey-based producer Steve Sperry, the pair have crafted an EP that, sonically, takes you back to the golden age of hip-hop. ‘Lacrosse Hosse’ kicks the album off, and it’s a gritty and funky tune that you just can’t help but bob your head along to. ‘Unfinished Sculpture, Pt. 1’ soon follows, and vidpoet pulls out all the stops with a relentless and fiery vocal performance.
‘Tripping Hard’ takes a softer and groovier approach than its predecessors, and serves as a reminder of just how talented these two musicians are. They can effortlessly mix it up just like that, and not miss a beat. ‘Model Poem’ is the EP’s final track and, without giving too much away, might be the album’s most interesting and unique song.
With at least three more instalments of Art Therapy in the pipeline, there’s a lot more to come from vidpoet and Sperry. We’re stoked to be able to go on this journey with them, and can’t wait to hear what’s next!
