When reflecting on British trap and hip-hop, one might come across Vidorra, talented producer, singer and rapper with a knack for eclecticism and innovation. Writing about his previous release ‘Here We Go Again’, just a few months ago, we proudly described: “The Stafford resident is able to innovate using available tools, blending EDM tones into trap formulas and exploring deeper in terms of sound design.”
Now, Vidorra returns with his latest effort, a 10-track album showcasing the best material he has to offer. ‘Green For Go’ is bold and unpredictable, while having a precise identity. Drums are punchy and eclectic: perhaps one of the most recognizable features in Vidorra’s productions. On top of them, we find intense lyricism, balanced between melodious rap and more spoken sections. The synth work is minimal, given just when it’s really needed. To note, ‘What People Want’ is in all effects a tech-house track, giving us a glimpse of the potential that lies behind Vidorra’s artistry.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of M.I.A, Travis Scott and Swedish House Mafia, ‘Green For Go’ is a celebration of creative freedom and a testament to the sheer diversity of South-Asian music. The album’s maze-like twists and turns offer up deep grooves, hip-hop beats and a feeling of being in a state of flow. Vidorra’s ambition is to bring together communities and create experiences; a mission that ‘Green For Go’ certainly embodies.
At a time where South-Asian artists are yet to break into the mainstream, this album is sure to make a statement.
