Vic da Looper Shares Quirky Record ‘Gata Negra’

Perhaps one of the most unique creative concepts we have come across this year, ‘Gata Negra’ is an explosion of colours and unexpected samples, a record that showcases Vic da Looper’s eclectic influences and artistic braveness. Building his creative process over a tapestry of loops and textures, the American sonic explorer aims to find fertile ground, perhaps somewhere fresh and unheard of. He kind of manages to do exactly that, combining dreamy and shoegaze electronica (think M83) with more eclectic references, such as a quirky cat sample and other glitches.

‘Gata Negra’ feels dreamy, almost cosmic, drenched in wide synth pads, ethereal beats and spacious guitars. Vic’s vocals are mixed quite low overall, making them an ingredient, not the main course. The main course is – indeed – the frequent cat meowing that positively characterises the record, giving it a very personalized flavour.

What’s more, ‘Gata Negra’ is part of a bigger concept album, organized around samples of cats and cat perspective themes. If that’s something you’d like to see unfold, make sure to follow Vic da Looper now.
