Velvet Starlings Returns with Retro-Flavoured Gem ‘Turning Point’

Were you ever a fan of The Doors? If so, you might find something suitable to your taste in Velvet Starlings’ latest effort, ‘Turning Point’. Signalling a newly-found creative flow, the band showcase their class and musicianship value by offering a rather eclectic and kaleidoscopic gem, almost delving into psychedelic territories. Packed with retro punch and organ-scape energy, ‘Turning Point’ moves at a fast pace among hectic drums and jangling guitars, while drenched in lo-fi and fuzzy flavouring.

Head Honcho Christian Gisborne’s charismatic vocals are treated with saturation and filtering, giving them a certain otherworldly and mesmerising quality, highly enriching the record. Anticipating a larger release expected at the end of August, ‘Turning Point’ is the perfect beginning for the group’s new artistic era, and if the single is anything to go by, we are in for some really good records.

As the instrumental is ambivalent and complex, so is the lyrical matter: “At the time I wrote it, I was thinking about climate change – we’re at a point where we could either start trying to fix it now and if we don’t, it could be too late. Or you could look at it like you’re in a relationship that’s on the rocks.” – Gisborne explains.
