Grateful that VeeAlwaysHere agreed to an interview, the musician takes us through the inspiration behind ‘USED TO’, how the story of his artist name came about, and what he ultimately hopes to achieve with his music. So, without further ado, please give a warm welcome to our new friend VeeAlwaysHere!
Hey VeeAlwaysHere, thanks a lot for taking the time to chat with us! I’m pumped to introduce you to our ever-growing audience! For those who have yet to discover your musical prowess, who is VeeAlwaysHere and when did your love affair with music begin?
Hi! Thank you so much for having me!
My love for music began when I was super young, I think 8 years old or so. To make a long story short, I came back home from Elementary school and wanted to watch some TV and when I turned it on, MTV was playing, so I basically just ended up watching music videos all day.
I remember thinking that everyone was so cool and that I really wanted to be just like that! That’s when I first realized I wanted to make music!
Our introduction to your sound came with your most recent single ‘USED TO’, and it’s a tune we’ve been absolutely loving around these parts! It just has an instantly iconic vibe to it. What would you like our readers to know about your latest release?
Thank you so much for saying that! The idea behind ‘USED TO’ was for me to actually try to go back to that moment when I first discovered that I wanted to make music and recreate that vibe! This song is a love letter to the era of music that I grew up on, which influenced me to start making music to begin with! So that part of it was very satisfying and felt like a cool magical moment when the song was finished!
Now, I’m sorry to pose such a tough question so early on, but which of your songs would you select to skyrocket to the top of the charts and achieve massive success?
Ooh, it’s so hard to choose! I treat music like little time machines. When I listen to music as a fan, I have those songs that instantly teleport me to very specific moments in the past, and this is something I really want to do for other people as an artist. So when I listen to some of my catalogue, it actually does the same for me.
I rediscover some of my older music all the time, and what makes it even crazier – sometimes I find new meanings in my old songs. Back then I might’ve written it about one situation, but since then something else happened that makes me connect with this song even more on a different level. So my “favourites” change all the time. Right now I would say, I like my song ‘Weak’ that came out earlier this year. ‘USED TO’ of course, and there is one more that hasn’t come out yet, that I think just beats them all 😀
Who are some of your biggest musical influences? Who did you grow up listening to? And would you say that your tastes have changed over the years?
I’ve always had a very diverse and bizarre music taste. If you go into my personal playlists, I have so many different genres and sounds on there. This is something I try to incorporate into my music career too. It is directly related to the fact that I never really had any specific influences or favourite artists, I was just listening to all the music I could get my hands on and taking it all in. I really enjoy genre-hopping as a music artist and I would say, that my biggest musical influence is not a person, but rather my unlimited musical curiosity. I just lead with that no matter what songs or projects I’m working on!
Please tell us a bit about your songwriting process. Not specifically for any song but just in general. How do you take an idea and turn it into a piece of music?
It happens differently every time. Sometimes it starts with a melody or a few words or lyrics. Sometimes I start with an instrument or production. But one thing always remains, I always want to capture the vibe and the feeling of where I’m at in my life with each song as I make them, even if the subject matter of the lyrics isn’t necessarily my story, the mood and the sonics are always grounded in how I feel or what I’m going through. It makes the songs super authentic for me and creates a certain type of feeling that I try to convey every time.
I’m a sucker for having to know the origins of a band’s name. I just can’t help myself! How exactly did VeeAlwaysHere come about?
It’s actually not that amusing of a story haha! Vee is a nickname a friend of mine gave me in college, so I’ve decided to go with that as my artist name; however, there were so many different Vees out there at the time. My Instagram handle is @veealwayshere and when I was creating it, it was just a stupid little joke that I leaned into.
My friends used to tease me a bit about how often I made content or posted, and they used to say, “Every time I open the app, Vee’s always here.” But over time it really stuck with me, so I just went with that as an artist name.
If you were allowed to “steal” one song in the world and claim it as your own, what would it be and why?
Ooh, that’s a tough question! I feel like there are so many, and yet nothing specific comes to mind! If I could “steal” a song and call it my own, it wouldn’t be about the fame or popularity of the song – it would be about its emotional connection.
I’d want it to be a song that makes people feel deeply, whether it’s joy, nostalgia, or even heartbreak. The kind of song that people hear and think “This is exactly how I feel, but I didn’t know how to say it.” To me, that’s the ultimate power of music – its ability to articulate emotions that words alone can’t. So, I’d “steal” a song that creates that kind of universal connection because that’s the type of music I aspire to make.
Thanks again for chatting with us VeeAlwaysHere! It’s been great getting to know you a bit better! Before we say farewell, what comes next for you musically, and do you have any words of wisdom you’d like to leave us with?
Like I said before, I want to create a soundtrack to people’s lives. Music has been such an important part of my life and I just want to give other people (and myself) more music to make memories to!
So please give some of my songs a listen and see what resonates with you! I have another single coming on December 6th. It’s a very unexpected 2-track single that I’m very excited about! The perfect finisher for 2024! I cannot wait for everyone to hear it!!
