Los Angeles-based indie-pop artist and producer Michelle Vanda is a musician with whom we are well acquainted. We have extensively followed and featured her musical journey, and she is undoubtedly one of the most talented artists around. She grows and develops with each new release, the hallmark of someone who is never content with resting on her laurels.
With her first release of 2024, Vanda focuses on the ending of a relationship – and highlights the jarring transition from knowing someone so deeply to now only recognising them as a stranger. Aptly titled ‘Stranger’, the tune begins with a delicate guitar and Vanda’s stunning vocals. Electronic drums then get inserted into proceedings before the listener is immersed in an ethereal and dreamy soundscape.
Infectious and breezy simultaneously, ‘Stranger’ expertly captures the bittersweet essence of moving on while clinging to memories. A hauntingly beautiful exploration of change and acceptance, it’s the perfect example of the boundary and genre-pushing sounds that make Vanda such a special musician.
The song is the first of many that Michelle plans on releasing this year, as she continues to captivate listeners with her poignant storytelling and musical prowess.
