Valaura is an up-and-coming Detroit-based outfit who recently unleashed their remarkable sophomore single in the form of ‘Running in Circles’. Serving as the follow-up to their debut ‘Take My Hand’, ‘Running in Circles’ finds its unique sonic inspiration in acts like Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine, Steely Dan, and Twenty One Pilots. It’s a highly novel and unconventional sound – but it’s deeply intriguing and addictive.
From emotive piano leads and a mix of eclectic guitar riffs, to Casey Cafego’s all-encompassing vocal performance and Justin Lanyon’s smooth drum work, ‘Running in Circles’ is a truly masterful piece of music. It strikes the perfect balance between experimental and accessible, a task many strive for but few achieve with such finesse.
As for the meaning behind the tune, the band says ‘Running in Circles’ is about “the presence of technology and social media that can be endlessly consumed”. It’s a worthy topic to highlight, as it’s beginning to feel more and more like we’re losing ourselves in the very platforms meant to connect us…Or is that just me?
With undoubtedly more material up their sleeve, Valaura is an outfit I simply cannot wait to hear from again!
