We partly wrote this article while in an airport waiting room, when travelling – which made for a peculiar and unexpected listening experience. The contrast between ‘SOMEWHERE IN TIME’s quirky and hypnotising sonic matter and the real world, with people frolicking around in a rush, made for a rather otherworldly feeling, the kind of vibe that makes you feel like you are floating on clouds and falling into hell at the same time.
Penned by Canadian creative UNITY, the record showcases her forward-thinking and universal approach to art, both in its sonic and visual aesthetic. Production-wise, ‘SOMEWHERE IN TIME’ builds its fascinating character on glitchy and granular beats, often drenched in trap and hip-hop energy. The synth work is nuanced and experimental, with UNITY lending her vocals to a mesmerising stream of spacious harmonies and never-ending soundscapes.
Speaking about the record, the Torontonian artist explains: “It’s a cosmic journey deep into the wormhole, where time distorts and the consciousness becomes omnipresent, unfolding the perception of reality that’s never been possible before.”
