Ukrainian Talents Polyvoda Share Eclectic Piece ‘Bonfire’

Introduced by a quirky and groovy drum pattern, ‘Bonfire’ showcases its tight and charismatic character from the beginning, setting the stage for a glorious and eclectic trip-hop record. The reader might disagree with us, genre-wise. In fact, the record appears to be rooted in a myriad of references and stylings. From soul and funk-flavoured vintage keys to modern-sounding, bouncy drum grooves, passing through a generally fresh and euphoric edge that is both psychedelic and dreamy. Crowning it all, ethereal and evocative female vocals.

As always, music needs to be experienced: ‘Bonfire’ is not the least. To really capture the magic behind it, listeners should sit down and let themselves lull into artistic absorption by Polyvoda’s enhanced musical prowess. Hailing from Ukraine, they are a modern and dynamic gender-fluid ensemble, on a mission to scramble the international scene with their unexpected and kaleidoscopic pieces.

Active since 2022, and having laid their foundation in the midst of the Kyiv siege, Polyvoda seems committed to delivering exceptional material. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Bonfire’, they explain: “We tried to capture the emotional intensity and complexity of both love and war. We saw a parallel between the ash produced by the bonfire and the ashes left by the war, illustrating the destruction and rebirth inherent in both experiences. As the bonfire generates warmth, love can blossom amidst the chaos of war.”
