We recently had the opportunity to explore the unique sound of Tyler Elden, a talented multifaceted artist whose songwriting blends progressive rock and folk influences. Coming across his latest release ‘Our Good Name’, we were especially impressed by Elden’s refined songwriting and peculiar vocal tone. The former tends to evoke powerful, heart-shaking emotions, exploring the complexity of human nature. The latter is a rather special tone, at times gritty, quite acute, and perfectly able to deliver the lyrical message to every keen listener.
Active in New Jersey, Tyler has already been featured in CherryVeeZine and The Mic blog, playing at a number of Philadelphia venues, such as Underground Arts, The Fire, The Grape Room, and Ortlieb’s. Gearing up for a big year of touring and releasing new music, Tyler seems to be on the brink of something big, perhaps a cornerstone moment in his career. And we wouldn’t think otherwise.
‘Our Good Name’ is a wonderfully good slice of pop-rock: instantly jumping into full band settings, the track serves up slightly 90’ alt and post-punk references, while maintaining a modern outlook, aided by the delicate guitar riffing. Overall, the arrangement provides the perfect sonic framework for Elden’s intense yet controlled vocals. Lyrically, ‘Our Good Name’ tells the sorrowful tale of a family being ostracized from their community and the uncertain future of their unborn child.
