Twelve Days in June Shares Throwback Album ‘Hiraeth’

We knew that ‘Hiraeth’ was coming; writing about one of the project’s previous singles, ‘Numb’, we proudly declared it “Twelve Days in June’s loudest offering to date”. Well, the new album completely meets our expectations, jumping into a nostalgic stream of 90s-flavoured rock matter and poignant melodies – what more could you ever want?!

If ‘Numb’ opens the record in an anthemic fashion, ‘Magic Hour’ matches the energy while embracing esoteric and eclectic guitar riffs. Twelve Days in June’s charming vocals are ever-present, commanding the listeners’ attention together with the soul-crushing distortions. ‘The Day I Learned Your Name’ is the track that breaks the flow, entering shoegaze territories with authority and melancholia.

Over 13 stunning offerings, ‘Hiraeth’ really throws it back to another era – yet, we’d argue that nostalgia is a rather central theme in contemporary culture, thus making Twelve Days in June’s musical work an unwanted… modern album. Speaking about the record, the American musician and songwriter explains: “I wasn’t ready to leave the 90s behind and Twelve Days in June was my way of keeping them alive. I guess that’s still true today.”
