Fierce, bold and playful; ‘I’ll Start’ is quite the record. The latest effort by South London indie alchemist TRUNKS, the track is lined with electrifying guitar tones, eclectic drum grooves and electronic textures, the perfect match for the British songster’s cathartic and anthemic vocal tone. In fact, ‘I’ll Start’ seems to delve into the golden era of indie sleaze, just to then bring it all back into the contemporary with witty sonic solutions.
An impressive offering from the English musician. Debuting last year with ‘Again, Tonight’, he’s noticeably committed to greatness – at least that’s our impression after listening to the project’s releases. Alternating softness to furious moments, ‘I’ll Start’ provides a vibrant listening experience, keeping the listeners on their toes, especially when TRUNKS’ dynamic, hyper-fuzzy vocals enter the chorus.
Lyrically, we are in authenticity territory, with the upcoming rocker empowering us all to stay true to ourselves – even in a world full of decoy and deception. Look out for TRUNKS’ debut EP, ‘Plaything’, expected later this year.
