Trunk Thoroughly Impress on Inventive Debut EP ‘Tembo’

Less than two months ago, I was blown away by a tune called ‘Blind Stare’. Courtesy of Newcastle upon Tyne-based four-piece Trunk, I struggled to pin down a clear genre label for the track but, with each listen, I found myself more and more drawn to the song. Eagerly awaiting to hear from the band again, I was thrilled to find out that they’d released their debut EP ‘Tembo’ not long ago so, if you’re up for it, let’s dive in.

‘Blind Stare’ gets the ball rolling and it’s so good to hear it again! Hypnotic and layered, it’s the perfect start to proceedings. ‘Save’ then steps up to the plate in an equally intriguing fashion, as the outfit sucks the listener into their entrancing musical realm of inventive arrangements and creative twists.

‘Shoot Me to the Sky’ serves as the EP’s halfway point, and I just love the consistent yet unpredictable nature of Trunk’s sound. You never quite know what’s coming up, but it’s guaranteed to keep you on your toes and engaged.

We end with ‘Fall’ and ‘Mason Jar’, two tunes I shall leave you to discover for yourself. All I’ll say is we’re dealing with a truly special act – and one whose journey I cannot wait to follow!
