Tropic Celebrate Queer Pride with ‘Boy’

Emerging from Brooklyn, Tropic would be best described as a breaking force in the R&B community. Their flair for innovation and pushing the sonic boundaries finds fertile territories in their latest effort, a charming cover of ‘Girl’ by The Internet and Kaytranada. Not a standard interpretation, though: Tropic showcase their genius by adapting the lyrics to their personal experience, strongly informed by a fierce LGBTQ+ queer pride and identity. In fact, the American pair takes ‘Girl’ and transform it into ‘Boy’, making the track relatable for the entire community.

‘Boy’ is also the manifest of everything the duo stands for, crystal clear, luscious R&B, modern, fresh yet drenched in tradition. Vocalist Jo-B Sebastian crowns the project with three-dimensional, expressive vocals, fully holding the listener’s attention with introspective and relatable lyricism.

Describing the inspiration behind ‘Boy’, Tropic explain: “Girl’ was the first song that made our lead vocalist Jo-B Sebastian feel seen in the R&B community & helped him envision a future where he could be out of the closet, singing his truth. In a time when the world is starting to see the importance of representation, our version of this beloved song is our love letter to our LGBTQ+ community.”
