How does a punk drummer make the transition to releasing instrumental-guitar albums? Well, it all comes down to personal expression. Looking for authenticity and needing to reconcile with a painful experience, Trojan Red decided to explore melodies and harmonies, mainly through the use of a raw acoustic guitar. ‘Under The Shooting Stars’ was born: a seven-track album, the record is entirely instrumental and performed on that very same guitar.
The result is music that’s soothing and solemn, the perfect sonic background for reflective moments of limitless escapism. There’s a touch of nostalgia and melancholia in it, only natural when discovering what motivated Trojan Red to write the album. Experiencing the tragic loss of a loved one, he made the conscious choice to process his grief through art. It worked, with ‘Under The Shooting Stars’ now free to comfort other people in the same situation.
Delving into the inspiration behind the record, Trojan Red explains: “It follows a gut-wrenching narrative of the aftermath of a loved one’s death, it creates desperation and turmoil in the family but it’s also about the path of overcoming in the aftermath of a tragedy. A bittersweet and poignant reflection on the nature of grief.”
