TriPed: “As a Libra moon, I can appreciate the beauty in most styles of music”

Emerging from London, TriPed returns after an almost 2-years hiatus with a disco-pop gem, ‘When U Were Mine’. Taking a page out of the superstar manual (cue Dua Lipa and The Weeknd), the talented artist manages to deliver a bubbly and exciting groovy banger, particular useful in fierce night-outs and proud moments.

Produced by TriPed with NYC-based producer Carl Culley, and Boston native Ellis Hall III, the record marks a new chapter for the project, ready to embrace a more contemporary, mainstream sound, taking the world by storm.

Intrigued by the project, we caught up with the London resident to find out more about his artistry and future goals… interview below!

Hey TriPed, how is it going? some of our readers might not be familiar with your project, how would you describe yourself, in a few words?

I would describe myself as creative, fun, and kind. Love spreading good vibes 🙂

Your current work is the result of a long journey; What first drew you to making music?

Music has always been a form of escapism for me, something that’s always been there to help me when I was at my lowest. Whether I’m writing or performing, expressing my true emotions or immersing myself in a fictional story, there’s nothing quite like getting lost in your performance and letting music take control over you.

If you had the opportunity to pick any artists in the world for a collaboration, who would be your first choice? (and second choice, perhaps?)

I would probably go with Kim Petras, I’ve supported her since the very beginning, and it’s so great to finally see her doing well. So yeah, if you’re reading this Kim, you know who to call 😉

You have recently released a disco-pop banger, ‘When You Were Mine’. Does this groovier style fully represent you? we also noticed it is quite different from your previous material. Is this TriPed 2.0?

I am always evolving as an artist, and constantly experimenting with different genres, and I have a lot of unreleased songs that span from pop-punk to house to R&B, you name it! As a Libra moon, I can appreciate the beauty in most styles of music. But, yes, it’s not the only track in this style that I’ve written, so if you like what you hear, stay tuned for more 😉

What did your co-writers Carl Culley and Ellis Hall III bring to the table? Will you collaborate with them in the future too?

Little correction: I’m the only writer of the song, they’re co-producers. I first went to Carl, an artist who I really love, with a very rough demo of the song, mostly just the piano, bassline and beat really, and he enriched it with his musical expertise and added guitars, synths, and additional percussions. I then built over that with some help from Ellis Hall III and sent the song to my distributor as soon as I felt it was ready. I love, love, love Carl, and we’ve worked on more catchy music which I can’t wait to release into the world once it’s time.

Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

I prefer writing on my own, as I’m very fussy in regards to the main elements of the song – lyrics, melody, and chord progression – however when it comes to producing, I’ve been working with others more often recently, which I think elevates the level of my music, as we all bring something different to the table, and the song, therefore, evolves in a way that it wouldn’t have had I worked on it alone.

Artistically speaking, what challenges have the last two years presented you with?

These last few years have indeed been challenging; I’ve had to dedicate less time to my artistry to prioritize other things in my life, however, my creativity wouldn’t accept being repressed like that, and it managed to come out whether I let it or not. I would get a lot of musical ideas in my dreams – most of my voice notes from this period are of me humming half-asleep – which I would then turn into actual songs whenever I could find the time. I have recently started performing again at intimate events which have helped me get some of my confidence back, and I am ready to dedicate more time to my art whenever life allows me to.

What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?

I have a great idea for a music video for one of my unreleased tracks which I have tried to bring to life many times, but something always managed to get in the way. It’s hard to organize a big project like this as an independent artist with few connections, but I’m determined to make it happen 🙂
