Not all festive records are equal; some are more eclectic than others. ‘A Christmas Card’ fits that very same brief: the latest effort by Spanish folk/Americana outfit Track Dogs, the album collects the group’s best festive-themed singles from their whole catalogue, together with two new charming offerings, ‘Tex MeXmas’ and ‘The Night Before Christmas’. In fact, the former proudly leads the record, having been given a stunning music video and a surprisingly Mexican-flavoured sonic livery.
‘The Night Before Christmas’ is instead rather elegant and closer to Track Dogs’ own style. Built on acoustic guitars and evocative fiddles, such a Folk gem is the musical adaptation of Clement Clarke Moore’s beloved poem. Overall, those are not your average festive songs, rather the contrary: they look unusual at first, giving Christmas a slightly more uplifting and varied take.
Speaking about the music video for ‘Tex MeXmas’, Track Dogs explain: “We were delighted when our friend Carolyn Corbet agreed to do a bespoke line dance choreography for “Tex MeXmas” and when she suggested we come and film their end-of-year get-together we had the perfect plan.”
