The size of Tokyo Tea Room’s loyal following might be a surprise to many; perhaps flying under the classic ‘industry radars’, the Margate-based dream-pop outfit has managed to rally around them a crowd of committed listeners from all over the world. It’s easy to see why: their luscious, hazy and shoegaze-flavoured material is a joy to listen to. Nostalgic and melancholic, it is introspective and expansive at the same time, wrapping the listeners in a cathartic journey through human emotions and everyday experiences.
Now, Tokyo Tea Room are back with new music after a sizeable hiatus. Backed by forward-thinking French imprint Nice Guys, the group shares ‘No Rush’, a single that confirms the project’s blessed artistic stature. Embracing a slower pace, the record delves deep into vibrant dreamy territories, featuring a touch of synths and lighter guitar tones.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘No Rush’, the group explains: “Recorded in our hometown studio in Margate, this track is the beginning of a journey through human emotions, capturing themes of longing, nostalgia, and the ephemeral nature of time”. TTR are also announcing a debut album… keep your eyes peeled!
