The shared moniker of producer Sepalot and lyrical genius Angela Aux, the project has all the elements needed for a powerful musical output: the leftfield sonic edge of the German dj, and Aux’s nuanced and researched songwriting work. ‘smoke rings’ confirms it all, an impressive debut for the visionary pair.
Built over an addicting and eclectic hip-hop groove, the track develops with impressive charisma and confidence, constantly exhibiting a cryptic retro flair. Angela’s hazy vocals are a perfect match for ‘smoke rings’ leftfield identity. Wolfi Schlick contributes with a fresh and quirky flute overdub.
Speaking about the record, TIKHET explain: “The two of us hardly ever got in each other’s way artistically and rarely had to look for compromises – simply because neither of us would have asked for them, because everything was allowed anyway.”
