Thundermoon Unveil Dreamy EP ‘We’re Still Here’

There’s a healthy dose of dreaminess in ‘We’re Still There’, perfectly balanced by the minimal electronic stylings featured in the production. In fact, we’d say the record provides a rather icy vibe, often stacking quirky drum machines with a repetitive, hypnotising synth melody. This is not your wall-of-sound, anthemic EP. It’s way more elegant and measured, only picking a few sounds but making them count. This showcases also the group’s artistic maturity.

Hailing from Edinburgh, Thundermoon describe themselves as an “electro-queer trio”, while borrowing from neighbouring genres such as new wave and post-punk. There’s a decisively retro and lo-fi character in their work, often built around arpeggiating, bright synthesisers and slender grooves. ‘We’re Still Here’ is the strongest evidence of that, packing four tracks that well illustrate Thundermoon’s wide fields of action and meaning.

‘Stay Alive’ and ‘No Regrets’ open the EP in emotional and evocative fashion, both being slow-burn gems with a fascinating, majestic character. ‘Wild’ and ‘Dust’ turn the intensity up; especially with the latter, exploring jungle-flavoured grooves and IDM-inspired tones.
