Therum Shares Visionary Piece ‘Sweet Victories / Sour Defeat’

Describing ‘Sweet Victories / Sour Defeat’ won’t be easy. Of course, the listening experience is rewarding, legendary and hypnotising. But its eclecticism is also what makes it hard for us to pinpoint any references or a definite genre. Some will say this is also the record’s strongest quality. And we agree. A kaleidoscopic offering, ‘Sweet Victories / Sour Defeat’ balances itself over post-rock stylings, electronic inserts and an understated prog influence. We are not far from psychedelic territories either: with a more colourful and modulating mix we’d be tripping on bright carpets and hippies-flavoured posters.

Instead, the track stops just short of that, maintaining that punchiness and clarity of sound that feels at home with Therum’s rock and pop outlook. Emerging from the US, the talented newcomer is as creative as ever. Known by day as John Luke Melovich, he’s a multi-talented instrumentalist and composer, fiercely pursuing artistic integrity and musical research.

As Therum himself describes it, ‘Sweet Victories / Sour Defeat’ is “a journey, a greater than sonic one with its animated music video that will entrance viewers.” In a way, it’s a sensorial experience, both aural and visual.
