Growth is an undeniable process. If engaged and welcomed correctly, it can carry any artist from nothingness to stardom. But to do so, the receiver of growth must be open to change. We believe THELIXX are ready for growth and change: emerging from Wales, the young trio has been making waves in the up-and-coming scene since last year, when they debuted with the eclectic and groovy gem ‘Magic’.
What’s clear about them, is that, although they configure themselves as a classic rock band, the project is all except that. Instead, Curtis Hicks, Lewis Hawkins and Shae Owen-Phillips borrow heavily from the contemporary music landscape, making use of electronic elements to achieve a radio-friendly, charming sound. As if that wasn’t enough, they recently partnered with Grammy-nominated songwriter Daniel Evans, opening a new exciting chapter in THELIXX’s career. Thanks to this collaboration, the Welsh talents unveil this week their new record, a stunning, luscious jewel titled ‘Hayley’. Over a stellar instrumental, we get served a witty yet pensive relationship and love tale.
We were seriously impressed when we first listened to it. The track boasts a stellar production, exploring synthwave territories and 80s influences to build a suitable sonic backdrop for Hicks’ sultry and evocative vocals, here treated in a slightly gritty effects chain. Echoing modern legends such as The Weeknd, ‘Hayley’ is a slick, fast-paced jewel, offering world-class songwriting and infectious melodies. If that’s the quality of music we are gonna get from THELIXX in the future, there is no doubt that the Welsh residents are in for a bright and strong career.
Overall, a strong single from THELIXX, confirms themselves as one of the hottest newcomers on the scene.
