The War Yaks Share Extensive and Complex Album ‘Bifurcate’

Where’s the prog-rock crowd at? We have just found a super-talented duo that’s as technically skilled as they are expressive and eclectic. Inspired by the greats of the past yet looking at the future and incorporating contemporary stylings, The War Yaks reveal themselves as a treasure trove of psychedelic energy and instrumental prowess. ‘Bifurcate’ is their latest album, an eight-track record which showcases how the American group doesn’t strictly bathe in rock territories.

In fact, tracks such as the opener ‘Codriver’ feature an impressively jazzy and soulful contour, suddenly sharing tons of elegance and charisma. Follow-up ‘The Lenghts’ empowers a distorted guitar, slowly turning towards more classical prog territories. On top of all that, head honcho Nat Rusciani lays down incredible vocals, super expressive and luscious – perhaps that’s one of the project’s strongest qualities.

Anthony Warga completes The War Yaks’ lineup, lending his writing and saxophone skills to the cause. On the album, the pair are joined by Esteban Mercado on guitar, Jesse Shaw on bass, and Kristina Bacich on flute. Speaking about the album, Rusciani explains: “I feel very strongly that prog can and should be fun, hummable. The songs touch on pretty deep topics — mortality, ecology, vulnerability — but we want you tapping your toes while you contemplate them.”
