There’s a strong sense of self-awareness in The Vow’s latest effort, ‘I Am Insane’. Liberating themselves from the chains of reason, the band delves into introspective and challenging material, mainly inspired by head honcho Graham Trust’s personal experience. In the record, he explores his past dealings with mental health and low mood. Don’t be mistaken, that’s not an excuse for The Vow to indulge in poignant, heart-shaking stuff: rather, the Liverpool-based group manages to merge such meaningful lyricism with a lighter sonic imprint, showcasing their nuanced songwriting prowess.
Built around a classically beautiful rock and pop outlook, The Vow is perfectly at home with cinematic energy and evocative tones, blending anthemic and catchy choruses with fuzzy guitars and gentle riffing. The result is a relatable, friendly gem, the kind of track that takes the listeners by surprise, delivering an unexpected musical journey.
Notably, Trust was inspired by Lana Del Rey’s ‘Venice Bitch’, especially the line “You’re beautiful and I’m insane”. Apparently, “the line is so shockingly self-revelatory that it made an enormous impact on me”, Graham describes. Joined by Tony Potter on drums, Nick Reynolds on bass and Martyn Gilbert on guitar, he’s really taking The Vow to higher territories, a vision that’s greatly reflected in their impressive streaming figures – people are listening!
