The Ultra Violets Share Hypnotising Record ‘SEX’

Emerging from the green and golden Cornish lands, The Ultra Violets are one of those bands able to build a strong aesthetic around their music – in fact, they can boast an energetic charge that completely overwhelms the listener, making the whole listening experience rather compelling. ‘SEX’ is the band’s latest single, an irresistible slice of fuzzy rock and psych elements, boasting saturated vocals and a fierce lyrical character.

Introduced by a simple drum beat, ‘SEX’ soon unveils the kaleidoscopic arrangement underlining the song. 70s-flavoured organs and keys travel fast along luscious guitars and intense vocal harmonies. Marc Willoughby’s lead vocals are charming and evocative, fully calling the listener’s attention.

Lyrically, the record tells quite a relatable story, focusing on a night of expected sensual activities failing to realize its full potential. It was inspired by a real-life dating episode experienced by a common friend. As The Ultra Violets explain: “a few dates later they are on a night out, it’s going well, things are getting hot, they go back to her house, the inevitable happened… or shall I say didn’t happen, the pressure of it all, she was really intense in the bedroom department you see, the poor lad could not handle it”.
