‘100 Mirrors’ is the stellar debut EP courtesy of Chicago-based outfit The Transference, an indie-rock/power-pop band founded by singer/songwriter and pianist Laura Hollingsworth. Known for her work with Burn the Barn and Silver Age, Laura has assembled some of the best musicians Chicago has to offer for her new project, and over six tunes, they illustrate just how masterful they are as a cohesive band.
‘Aliens’ gets the blood pumping as the EP’s opener with a slightly dark yet bouncy vibe that sets the tone perfectly for what’s to come. ‘Premonitions’ then steps up to the plate, greeting the listener with an ethereal and dreamy intro before hitting its stride with a driving beat and soaring harmonies.
‘Holy Smoke’ is the EP’s third song and by now one is fully immersed in the rich and textured sounds of The Transference. Hollingsworth’s dynamic and versatile vocals are truly something to behold, and she displays a captivating presence that just invites you into her world. Superb!
‘Afterglow’, ‘Event Horizon’, and ‘American Lawns’ complete ‘100 Mirrors’, and I don’t want to give too much away in terms of their sonic might. Discover them. Absorb them. Allow yourself to be swept away by their brilliance. What an EP!
