Keen readers know that here at Mesmerized we like to delve into anything fringe and leftfield. Sure, we do cover a variety of genres, but there’s always something refreshing in entering unknown artistic territories, in having our minds blown by a sonic formula that we didn’t know existed. ‘Conversations With Angels’ caters to exactly that. A large, expansive album, the record is as quirky as one would expect, spanning darkwave and industrial territories with a distinct core of shoegaze and cosmic wave.
Behind it all, we find English visionary entity The Tearless Life, fierce explorers of anything mysterious and space-related. In truth, there’s a touch of psychedelia in their lyricism, a theme that goes very well with the album’s otherworldly sonic character. ‘Opium Eater’ is one of the best examples of that. Elsewhere, ‘The Mistress’ reveals the project’s new wave influences, while opener ‘Beyond the Thread the Spinner Span’ jumps into limitless soundscapes and eerie textures.
Formed only last year (2023), The Tearless Life describe themselves as “Cultpop from the pagan valleys of East Lancashire & The Spaces Between Spaces.” Well, the project is even more mysterious now… Be brave and bold, and give ‘Conversations With Angels’ a chance – you won’t regret it!
