The Starkillers Get a Little More Mellow on ‘Here With You’

Jeremy Bregman

Salt Lake City-based The Starkillers are another band who have recently burst onto the scene with their sweet-sounding indie-rock vibes! Their most recent single, and third to date, is called ‘Here With You’, and starts out with the most beautifully gentle acoustic guitar. Lead vocalist Jon Omen then makes his introduction, and ‘Here With You’ effortlessly builds itself up until it reaches its ridiculously catchy and anthemic chorus. It’s one of those tunes that I like to label “stadium-ready”, as I can just see it being belted out to a large and adoring crowd.

Lyrically, ‘Here With You’ explores the intimacy of simply clicking with another human being. “It’s really just about wanting to be with the person you connect with,” says the band. “And wanting to spend every waking minute with them because, in a way, they complete you.”

The Starkillers cite acts like The Killers, Foster the People, Walk the Moon, and Foo Fighters as influences on their sound. Perhaps as importantly though, they shout out Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars, Blade Runner, and Altered Carbon as influencing their aesthetic and look. Whoever and whatever their influences are, we just hope they carry on doing what they’re doing!
