The keen reader might remember our recent article about The Spiritual Leaders, eclectic indie band from Ireland with a knack for ethereal, dark tones and metaphorical lyricism. We were so enthusiastic about their music, to proudly declare: “championing a highly contaminated indie rock imprint, the Irish band manages to blend electronic influences on dazzling guitar riffing, effectively creating a signature sound we’d place in the -tronica realm.”
Since then, The Spiritual Leaders have been busy at work, delivering a majestic album that greatly showcases the growth of a sapient and nuanced group. ‘This Fictional Place’ opens with a rather abstract introduction, ‘London Waiting’, making sure to let the listeners know this is not going to be a traditional pop record, by any means. Instead, we’ll all be thrown into the band’s infectious mix of 2010’s indie riffs and introspective vocals, often drenched in big reverbs and synth action.
Of course, there’s a lot to dive into. From the shoegaze lands of ‘Yellow Moon Rising’ to the traditional tones of ‘Hall of Mirrors’, The Spiritual Leaders are perfectly comfortable with the full spectrum of their creativity, allowing them to pursue long-term realization, rather than short-term success.
A fantastic album, to enjoy all at once with no distractions. Recommended!
