The Singer and the Songwriter Release Latest Album ‘Dreams! The Dead! Ghost! Future’

After a decade in the making, Oakland-based modern-folk duo The Singer and the Songwriter have finally released their touching and expressive new album ‘Dreams! The Dead! Ghost! Future’. Comprised of the award-winning, queer, and mixed-race pair of Rachel Garcia and Thu Tran, The Singer and the Songwriter has been active since 2012, but their latest record is perhaps the duo’s most personal and intimate offering to date.

A twelve-track album with four exquisite instrumental interludes that express the passing of seasons, ‘Dreams! The Dead! Ghost! Future’ envelops the listener in a meditative exploration of heartbreak, loss, hope, and desire.

The record’s lead single ‘Sound & Light’ was written almost a decade ago, and became a fan favourite along the way. Delicate, emotional, and soul-stirring, the tune began its life as a poem penned by Rachel.

‘The Work’ is a song that drew on inspiration from a Washington Post story about retirement-age folk who traded their homes and belongings for an RV to travel and seek work. Created as a modern-day labour anthem and a reflection of working-class struggles, it’s another astoundingly beautiful track.

Other personal favourites include ‘Drowsy Driver’, ‘Flight Risk’, and ‘You Take Such Good Care of Me’. Truthfully, however, the entire album deserves your attention. Pure brilliance!
