The ROLF Releases Mellow But Bleak Gem ‘Closing Time’

For Per Dahlquist, singer and songwriter based in Sweden, making music doesn’t have to be a codified process. Instead, it is a pure, honest exercise in artistic expression, exploring different sonic avenues and instrumentation. Although some might dismiss this approach as an egoistical tendency, we instead think it’s a plus point: Per is happily pursuing his creativity, wherever it might take him. And that’s very valuable, especially in a world where music can be very materialistic.

Calling himself The ROLF, the Swedish talent has been releasing music for over two years, managing to amass a fair number of streams; this goes to show that someone out there connects with the project. Dahlquist is speaking relatable words.

Following up from previous effort ‘Look like Shimmering’, published earlier this year, The ROLF now returns with a more pensive and poignant offering, ‘Closing Time’. Configuring itself as a slow-tempo, soft ballad, the track breaks from the project’s usual rock aesthetic, instead jumping into charming folk-pop territories, which frankly really suits it. On top of this mellow slice of goodness, we find Per’s vocals, gently describing the bleak and dark reality we are living in. It is quite the contrast, if you think about it: a gloomy and heavy lyrical theme framed into light, and airy sonic matter. Genius work by The ROLF.
